General information; not independently clinically reviewed. How we prepare our guides.

Understand hypertension and keep clearer blood pressure, meal and medicine notes alongside the measurement routine agreed with your healthcare team.

A blood pressure check may reveal a problem on a day that feels entirely ordinary. A consistent measurement routine is more useful than waiting for a symptom to tell you what is happening.

Understanding High blood pressure

High blood pressure, or hypertension, increases the risk of heart, brain and kidney problems. It usually has no symptoms. Diagnosis may involve repeated clinic, home or ambulatory measurements rather than a single reading. [1]

Care and everyday food decisions

Treatment may include prescribed medicines, less salt, suitable activity and other changes. Ask how to measure at home, which targets apply to you and what readings need a call. Do not adjust medicines in response to one reading without your team's instructions. [1]

Keeping a useful personal record

Record both blood pressure numbers, the time and the circumstances, alongside prescribed medicines and relevant everyday notes. Keep the measurement method consistent with your clinician's advice. One Food Forward stores the record you enter; it does not check your cuff, interpret the readings or send urgent alerts.

Does feeling calm mean my blood pressure is normal?

No. Symptoms and feelings cannot reliably show your blood pressure. Use proper measurements and follow the review plan agreed with your team. [1]

Keep the details somewhere you can find them

There is no need to tell the whole story at once. Start with today’s meal, a symptom or a few words about how you felt. Those small entries give you something to return to when it is time to talk about your care.
