Understand small fiber neuropathy and keep useful notes about burning pain, dizziness and daily function alongside assessment and prescribed care.

A bedsheet against the feet can feel unexpectedly painful. When the discomfort is difficult to see, a clear description can help make the experience easier to explain.

Understanding Small Fiber Neuropathy

Small fiber neuropathy affects small peripheral nerve fibres and may cause burning, tingling or altered sensation, often in the feet or hands. Some people have symptoms affecting automatic body functions. Causes vary and are not always found; assessment may involve specialised testing. [1]

Care and everyday food decisions

Care aims to treat any identified cause and manage symptoms. Medicines and other pain-management support may be offered. Tell your clinician about dizziness, altered walking or spreading symptoms. Do not assume all nerve pain reflects one vitamin deficiency or begin high-dose supplements without advice. [1]

Keeping a useful personal record

Record where symptoms occurred, what contact or activity was uncomfortable and any dizziness or digestive concerns. Keep prescribed treatments and meals in context. One Food Forward can preserve the account, but cannot test nerve fibres or establish the cause of neuropathy.

Can I identify the cause from a food diary?

No. Different conditions can contribute, and some cases have no known cause. A record can support your assessment, but cannot replace examinations or tests. [1]

Keep the details somewhere you can find them

There is no need to tell the whole story at once. Start with today’s meal, a symptom or a few words about how you felt. Those small entries give you something to return to when it is time to talk about your care.
