General information; not independently clinically reviewed. How we prepare our guides.

Understand psoriasis and keep useful records of skin symptoms, joint concerns and prescribed treatment without assuming every flare is food-related.

Visible skin changes can draw attention while the discomfort and interrupted sleep remain less obvious. A useful account includes both what can be seen and how the day felt.

Understanding Psoriasis

Psoriasis causes patches of inflamed, flaky skin and can affect nails. Its appearance varies with skin tone, and symptoms may improve and flare. Some people also develop joint problems, which deserve assessment rather than being treated as an unrelated nuisance. [1]

Care and everyday food decisions

Treatment depends on the extent and impact of the condition and may include skin medicines, light treatment or systemic medicines. Follow monitoring instructions for prescribed treatment. Discuss diet questions with your clinician rather than assuming food exclusions will control psoriasis. [1]

Keeping a useful personal record

Record itch, soreness, sleep disruption, joint symptoms and the treatment used, alongside meals if useful. Include better periods to give the record balance. One Food Forward can help you explain changes, but cannot confirm a flare's cause or assess the safety of immune-modifying treatment.

Does a flare after a meal prove that an ingredient is responsible?

No. A diary records timing, not causation. Bring concerns to your clinician before making restrictions or changing treatment. [1]

Keep the details somewhere you can find them

There is no need to tell the whole story at once. Start with today’s meal, a symptom or a few words about how you felt. Those small entries give you something to return to when it is time to talk about your care.
