Parkinson's Disease: Mealtimes and Treatment Records
Understand Parkinson's care and keep useful notes about meals, movement, bowel symptoms and prescribed medicines to discuss with your specialist team.
The time it takes to prepare or finish a meal can say something important about a day. With Parkinson's, those ordinary details belong in the care conversation.

Understanding Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease affects movement and can cause slowness, stiffness and tremor, as well as other physical and psychological symptoms. It develops differently between people. Specialist assessment establishes the diagnosis and guides ongoing care. [1]
Care and everyday food decisions
Treatment may include medicines, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other support. Ask your team about constipation, swallowing difficulties or medicine timings around meals. Do not independently reduce protein or change prescribed doses in response to a diary pattern. [2]
Keeping a useful personal record
Keep the times of prescribed medicines with meals and notes about movement or practical eating difficulties. Include what helped, such as extra time or an adapted utensil. One Food Forward can organise observations, but cannot assess swallowing safety or identify whether a medicine is wearing off.

Should I change meal timings around my medicine?
Ask your Parkinson's team or pharmacist. The answer depends on the medicine and your needs. A record can help describe a concern, but should not become an unsupervised dosing experiment. [1] [2]
Keep the details somewhere you can find them
There is no need to tell the whole story at once. Start with today’s meal, a symptom or a few words about how you felt. Those small entries give you something to return to when it is time to talk about your care.
