Multiple Sclerosis: Meals, Fatigue and Daily Notes
Understand MS care and keep useful notes about fatigue, bowel symptoms, eating and treatment, with professional support for new or changing problems.
The same task can feel quite different from one day to the next. With MS, recording what made a meal or an activity difficult may help explain needs that are otherwise hard to see.

Understanding Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis affects the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms can include fatigue, movement or sensory changes, vision problems and bowel or bladder difficulties. The pattern differs between people and over time. Diagnosis and assessment of change require specialist care. [1]
Care and everyday food decisions
Treatment depends on the type of MS and may include disease-modifying medicines, symptom treatment and rehabilitation. Ask for help with bowel, swallowing or nutritional concerns. A special diet is not a substitute for the treatment and monitoring agreed with your team. [1]
Keeping a useful personal record
Keep meals, bowel symptoms, fatigue and prescribed treatments with notes about daily function. Describe changes from your usual pattern, including difficulties preparing or eating food. One Food Forward can support a review, but cannot determine whether symptoms are a relapse or advise steroid treatment.

Does a difficult day mean I am having a relapse?
Not necessarily. Contact your MS team about new or worsening symptoms so they can assess the cause. A diary can describe what changed, but cannot classify it. [1]
Keep the details somewhere you can find them
There is no need to tell the whole story at once. Start with today’s meal, a symptom or a few words about how you felt. Those small entries give you something to return to when it is time to talk about your care.
